Youth Housing Options Program

The Youth Housing Options Program (YHOP) is an education and skills-based program for young people aged 15- 24 years old who are living in social housing, or preparing for independent living.

The YHOP provides young customers and community members with the opportunity to engage in capacity building workshops, developed with Hume’s expert housing knowledge and sector feedback. With an emphasis on meaningful goal-setting, developing agency, and identifying personal strengths, YHOP builds the capacity of young people to secure stable accommodation, and sustain their tenancy in the social and private rental market.

Specialist youth housing support is provided to Hume’s young customers in independent housing, to assist with sustaining their current tenancy with Hume, and develop a tailored and focused transition plan, to prepare them to move successfully into a sustainable long-term housing option. During this process, young customers are encouraged to choose and act on housing goals based on their own strengths, aspirations and understanding of their options.

Young customers are invited to lead their transition planning process with support from Hume’s Youth Programs Officer, and their personal preferences and circumstances inform this process, in addition to external eligibility requirements.
