New fund means more affordable housing from Hume Community Housing

Hume Community Housing has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement of a new infrastructure fund that will help the organisation to deliver more top quality affordable housing in NSW.

Hume CEO Nicola Lemon said the Government’s timely announcement coincides with Hume’s latest milestone – the flagship project Hamilton@Fairfield fully leased this week.

The 60 unit development includes 29 affordable housing units that have been rented to low income workers so they can live near work and reside in a vibrant neighbourhood.

“We are thrilled to see our final customers moving in to Hamilton@Fairfield this week,” Ms Lemon said.

Ms Lemon said Hamilton@Fairfield was an excellent example of what could done with the right financing models to encourage construction of affordable housing.

“The new National Housing Infrastructure Facility will include a bond aggregator which will provide low cost finance for Community Housing Providers to build more affordable housing like Hume has here at Hamilton@Fairfield.”

Affordable housing customer Joanne Hawkins just signed her lease and now calls Hamilton@Fairfield home.

“I was planning to move to Telopea until I went to an open house at Fairfield@Hamilton,” she said.

“The apartments are beautiful and the location in Fairfield is so close to where I work, it allows me to have a great work/life balance,” Ms Hawkins said.
